Hello!

I am a happy user of your app. I enjoy flying with it.

There are very good applications of wether radar that we all use just to have an idea of how is the wether in some areas. With the retard you can not use them to real time flying like ADS-B but give you an idea of what is arround you.

Do you have any plans to include that? May ve there are any payed service that give that info with low delay?

Thank you and regards,
Manuel

As you say, there are already many apps out there (lots free) which give you excellent weather radar. We do not plan on integrating weather radar into SkyDemon itself until such time as we can reliably provide the service in flight.

Tim, would it not be a great business opportunity to start providing a satellite based weather radar service in Europe for GA? You would be the first navigation app offering this and could license it to others if you want. Maybe even market it as a standalone solution.

After seeing what you can do with such a diverse and inhomogenous topic as aviation maps in Europe, I have no doubt you would be able to do a great job providing satellite based weather services.

Greetings, -- Chris.

Just looked at garmin pilot. Your software is much better but:
weather data (clouds/rain/strikes) layers on the maps there are really cool.
And also the synt view...
Realtime in flight; perhaps could work also with iridium go ?
Worst case:
better with gsm than no infos...

No, the thought in the pilot's head that the weather data is updating whereas in reality it is not - because of patchy 3G coverage - is the worst case. And that's why we are not currently prepared to integrate radar data into SkyDemon.

Synthetic vision is cool but almost utterly useless for VFR flight.

i take your point re: safety in flight but could such a feature be applied during planning stages on the ground and disabled while navigating until such time as a reliable update method becomes available?.

Yes, it could. We have considered that but we don't fully understand what use such a feature is in planning mode. After all, rainfall radar (and satellite rainfall data too) is "live" (slightly historical) and so could only potentially help with a flight you are literally about to take off on. Is that the usage you are considering?

Yes.  Perhaps the morning of the flight you're planning to make just keep an eye on things and how the weather is developing / moving but also perhaps to help plan a route around weather.   In flight updates would be fantastic but at the planning stage it could simply be as beneficial as combining several sources of information into one place and to help give a picture of whats happening in the space between airfields with METARs.
